The Enigmatic Beauty of Sun Rings: An Exploration into the Solar System's Shimmering Wonders
Sun rings, also known as coronal loops or plage regions, are bright and hot features that surround the sun. They consist of magnetic fields arching over active areas on the Sun's surface called sunspots. These arcs of plasma emit ultraviolet light and can extend up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers above the photosphere -the visible layer- into a region called corona. Scientists study these structures to better understand changes in solar activity which have an impact on our planet’s environment, including space weather events like geomagnetic storms that affect satellites, power grids and communication systems amongst others
